CLIENT:PLESSEY | AGENCY:FOUNDATION

"We worked with True Story on a shoot for one of our technology clients, and the experience was excellent from start to finish."

the challenge

Plessey has built one of the most advanced integrated technology capabilities in its field, but like many deep-tech companies, its public presence hadn't caught up with its achievements.

As it moved into a period of heightened visibility, it needed a film that could make its world-leading capability instantly credible to several different audiences at once; investors who wanted to its size and capabilities, policymakers who needed to grasp its national significance, senior candidates being recruited into the business, industry experts, and non-technical new hires.

It also had to happen without revealing proprietary process detail, a narrower brief than it looks, with no room for filler or generic manufacturing-explainer footage.

"The brief was tricky, but they nailed it, and their eye for detail was outstanding throughout. Communication was faultless: always clear, responsive, and easy to work with."

THE solution

Working in partnership with Foundation and the brief they had developed, True Story built the film around scale, credibility and precision rather than process.

Cinematic drone footage established the full 30,000m² facility for audiences who would never visit in person, while footage of gowned teams, reactor and metrology equipment, automation in motion inside the fab and cleanroom signalled a world-class operation to anyone in the industry without exposing how the work is actually done. Close-up and microscopy shots brought the nanoscale work to life visually, and the people were framed as engineers and scientists at work, not headcount.

The result was a single film built to hold its own in an investor deck, a policy briefing and a recruitment campaign simultaneously, and was both credible to an industry expert and legible to someone with no technical background at all.

""Both our agency and the client were thrilled with the final result. I highly recommend Sam and the True Story team to anyone looking for a video production partner who genuinely cares about the work."

“When I watched the film for the first time, I was completely overwhelmed. It honestly shows me in a better light than I’ve ever imagined. It’s been an incredibly positive experience, one that’s made me feel more aligned with my vision. I would absolutely recommend True Story to anyone wanting to share something meaningful and real about what they do. Sam has a real understanding of people, and a way of quietly capturing the heart of things and that’s what makes this film feel so special.”
