SUPERVENE

Forest with tall trees and a ground covered in purple flowers, a person in a light pink dress walking among the trees.

"Working with True Story Productions was a genuinely brilliant experience where we truly connected as professionals."

the challenge

Supervene had built a strong track record working on major projects with major clients, led by Michael Westlake, a brilliant architect and master planner, and someone who communicated that expertise easily to his own clients face to face.

But like many growing practices, that skill didn't translate into visibility beyond the people already in the room.

When Alex came on board as a partner, changing that became a priority: making Supervene and its work better known, both to the local community and to future collaborators, without it costing the practice time it didn't have.

"Telling your own story can be surprisinglydifficult.
True Story helped us do that with confidence, warmth and care."

THE solution

True Story built a brand film that introduced Supervene through the partners themselves and the story of how they got here.

We filmed on location at two of their standout projects, Sugar House Island and Aire Park, and in the studio to show the day-to-day of how the practice works.

But the heart of the film came from the conversations: getting Michael and Alex to talk openly about why they do this work, how they believe they can help their clients and communities, and their vision for the future.

The result was a film that felt personal rather than promotional, one that showed two people with genuine intent behind the work.

"The finished film captures us in a way that feels completely authentic: collaborative, technically focused, creative, and genuinely centred on people, better places and good outcomes."

THE OUTCOME

When Supervene shared the finished film on their website and social channels, it generated the highest engagement the practice had ever seen. Not just views, but genuine engagement from clients, consultants and contacts in the form of responses, comments and messages.

As partner Alex Taylor put it afterwards: "It has reminded me again that architecture is ultimately about people: the people we work with, the people we design for, and the relationships that make good things happen." For a young, independent practice, that reaction was the exact kind of visibility and connection we'd set out to build.

“When I watched the film for the first time, I was completely overwhelmed. It honestly shows me in a better light than I’ve ever imagined. It’s been an incredibly positive experience, one that’s made me feel more aligned with my vision. I would absolutely recommend True Story to anyone wanting to share something meaningful and real about what they do. Sam has a real understanding of people, and a way of quietly capturing the heart of things and that’s what makes this film feel so special.”
